MBOTYI RIVER LODGE NEWSLETTER – MAY 2010
Many hospitality venues in South Africa are busy preparing for an influx of noisy soccer fans whilst here in our tranquil piece of paradise at Mbotyi River Lodge on the Wild Coast, we are preparing for the annual Sardine Run. Soon the harmony in the Indian Ocean will be shattered and the chaos that ensues is a visual feast of unsurpassed magnitude. June and July is when huge shoals of sardines, dubbed “The Greatest Shoal on Earth” start moving up the coast. These shoals are followed by thousands of common and bottlenose dolphins, sharks, seals, whales, gannets and a plethora of game fish.
Every year for 5 weeks, Mbotyi River Lodge is filled with foreign divers. These are scientists, journalists, photographers and those just wanting to experience this incredible phenomenon taking place along the shores of South Africa.
Diving packages are offered by 2 highly experienced skipper/dive masters who bring their boats, crew, equipment and micro light spotter pilots to Mbotyi River Lodge.
This year, because of the Soccer World Cup invasion and costly flights, fewer foreigners are venturing to our shores. This means that Mbotyi River Lodge can offer South Africans who wish to escape the soccer madness, an opportunity to experience the Sardine Run from the ocean.
Mbotyi River Lodge is offering packages which include
- Accommodation and 3 meals a day at the Lodge
- A boat trip of 6-7 hours from where you can view, snorkel or dive (own equipment)
- A snack pack for the trip
